Begun by Rev. Carolyn Smith Goings, Ph.D. in late 2015, Diverse & United Publishers is an endeavor that grew out of a need Rev. Goings quickly realized was unmet as she searched for materials suitable for use in the diverse congregation she and a small team of volunteers were then working to establish.
To satisfy the need for suitable Bible Study resources and Small Group guides for that new church plant, Dr. Goings began writing materials herself, bringing to the task her thirty years of experience in cross-racial ministries, diversity advocacy, and writing.
Carolyn obtained a Master of Fine Arts in Writing from Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont, which was also where she completed a baccalaureate in English and Secondary Education. Additionally, she earned the Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts and in 2016 completed the Antioch University Ph.D. in Leadership and Change (organizational leadership) program.
Besides leading in cross-racial pastorates in several congregations, Dr. Goings completed residencies in Clinical Pastoral Education and in Chaplaincy Development. She has served as a staff chaplain in a number of settings: college campus, prison, long-term care facility, hospice care, and currently in a large general hospital.
Resources for Diversity, an imprint of Diverse & United Publishers, provides practical, easy-to-use materials applicable to a wide variety of ages, cultural backgrounds, and ministry uses.
